PYCHOTHERAPY OF SCHIZOPHRENIA

Kee Baik-Seok
Abstract
The translators have reviewed Arieti¢¥s new or revised procedures for the psychotherapy of schizophrenia. He formulated four basic principles. The first principle is related with dealing with anxiety. The second principle is that the psychotherapist must not consider a return to the premorbid condition as a desirable goal. The third principle concerns the achievement and maintenance of a state of delicate balance. The fourth principle, and the most important, is that treatment must be seen as a way by which the patient proceeds toward a gradual and progressive self-acceptance. For these approaches can proceed well, the therapist must establish the relatedness with the patient. lAnd then the other approaches can be applied. Finally, Arieti did not see the family as a source of pathology, but as a major instrument of restoration to health. He emphasized that the therapist must educate the family to make them better understand- the problems so that they can help the patient more properly.
